Ex-Man City Winger Trevor Sinclair Apologises To Furious Liverpool Fans For ‘Bin Dippers’ Tweet

Former Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair caused a huge stir on Twitter on Tuesday night by aiming a controversial slur at Liverpool.
While watching City romp to a 4-1 victory over Burnley in the Premier League, Sinclair - who played for the club between 2003 and 2007 - wrote on social media:

Bin dippers we're coming for you.

On Wednesday morning, Sinclair - speaking on air on UK sports radio station talkSPORT alongside presenter Jim White - apologised to anyone he offended.

The 46-year-old insisted he will donate Wednesday's talkSPORT fee to Whitechapel Centre, which is a leading homeless and housing charity in the Liverpool region.

Inevitably, Liverpool fans took to social media after the needless jibe on Tuesday to vent their frustration - with many demanding he is sacked as a pundit from talkSPORT following his grim reference mocking poverty on Merseyside.

And following the massive reaction on social media, 46-year-old Sinclair tried to backtrack immediately on Twitter.

After receiving initial abuse, the former England international joked, alongside three laughing emojis:

So sensitive, calm down you're still 8 points ahead.
After receiving plenty of backlash, Sinclair replied with this insincere social media post
He then opted for a more sensitive approach on Wednesday morning.

Sinclair said on Twitter:

To any fan that was offended by what I wrote last night I apologise. It was a throw away line regarding closing the gap.

It wasn't my intention to offend anyone, especially from a social stance. I'm a working class lad and understand how it's been taken. Sorry.

Back in January 2018, the former England footballer had been axed as a Match of the Day pundit after calling a policeman a 'white c**t' before urinating in a police car after he was caught drink driving.
