Messi Scoops His Sixth Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo Is ‘In A Prison’ At Juventus - Italian Press

Cristiano Ronaldo is watching his lofty status within the world of football come crashing down around him, according to Italian media.
The 34-year-old was conspicuous by his absence from the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday evening, as his great rival Lionel Messi won his sixth title - taking him one ahead of the Portuguese.

Instead, Ronaldo snubbed the ceremony to attend the Oscar del Calcio AIC, the Italian Football Awards dinner where he walked away with two separate prizes.

But despite that recognition, things are far from rosy in Italy for the Juventus forward.

Corriere dello Sport, explored the star's current predicament in depth on Tuesday morning, describing his situation as a 'crisis' on their front page.

They point to his dwindling impact on the side, particularly when compared to his key role in their Scudetto-winning season last term.

Ronaldo scored 21 times in the top flight during Massimiliano Allegri's final season in charge, but that type of form has dried up under Maurizio Sarri.
