Arsenal Key Staff Member Set To Join Liverpool

Arsenal's head of medical services Gary O'Driscoll is reportedly set to join Liverpool, ending his decade in North London.

The Reds have been on the hunt for a new head of medical services with Andrew Massey set to leave Anfield to take up a similar role with FIFA, where he is due to start in early March.

Jurgen Klopp's side underwent a process of identifying candidates to fill that void and according to The Athletic, O'Driscoll is set to accept the position.

Arsenal were determined to keep O'Driscoll at the Emirates Stadium but the lure of moving to the North West, where he has worked previously in Manchester, looks to be too strong to resist.

O'Driscoll previously held lead positions with the British Lions and Ireland rugby team and has been at Arsenal since 2009, surviving the cull of backroom staff that followed after Arsene Wenger's departure in 2019.

The return of Mikel Arteta as manager had raised optimism, with the Gunners hoping that he could play a part in persuading O'Driscoll to remain at the club.

However, the prospect of joining the defending European Champions and English Premier League leaders was too difficult for the 49-year-old to turn down.

The report claims the Gunners have already placed an advert on their club website to recruit a replacement for O'Driscoll.
